Sex Out Loud is currently accepting applications for Spring 2012 internships.  Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member to develop a research project on a sexual health topic, and may choose to receive academic credit for the internship.

To apply, please complete the application and submit it with a cover letter, either by emailing it to demarco.bowen3@gmail.com or dropping it off at the Sex Out Loud office in Suite 3143 at the Student Activity Center (if we’re not in the office, just slide the application under the door) by Friday, February 3, 2012.

To make sure that students can pick up all the safer sex supplies they need before finals and Winter break, Sex Out Loud will be holding extended office hours Wednesday, Dec. 14 through Friday, Dec. 16.  Staff members will be in the office from 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm all three days to distribute supplies and answer questions, so make sure to stop in!

The Sex Out Loud office will not be open regular hours during finals week.

Favorite professor or class on campus?

Gender & Women’s Studies 103: Women’s Bodies in Health and Disease – with Araceli Alonso. I LOVED 103 SO MUCH that I changed my major because of it!!103 was interesting, informative, and fun – there’s so much to learn about women’s bodies! This class is great for all individuals – guys, girls, and everyone in between! :)

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I am double majoring in Biology and Gender & Women’s Studies, and I will be getting a certificate in Global Health. Some day, I’ll head to PA school to be a physician’s assistant!

What do you do to relax at the end of a long day?

I am proud to say that I am a Senior Mellophone in our UW Marching Band! At the end of a long day, I enjoy laying in my bed to dream of all six miles of the Rose Parade, marching outstanding pre-game and halftime shows, obliterating Oregon in the Rose Bowl, and capping January 2nd with an awesome 5th Quarter. Ahhh, that’s the Sconnie life! :)

Favorite hang-out spots in Madison?

There are so many awesome ones to choose from, all depending on the season! I love sailing on Mendota during the summer, chilling with the band in Camp Randall in the fall, sipping Badger Mochas at The Library Cafe in the winter, and enjoying the warming weather on the Terrace during the spring!

Katie:

Favorite hang-out spot in Madison?
My favorite spot is the area surrounding (and partly on top) of Van Vleck at night. It’s so peaceful because there’s hardly anyone around and there’s a nice view; overall it’s a good thinking spot, somewhere to get away to.

What do you want to want to be when you grow up?

First and foremost I want to be a small animal vet, but if that doesn’t turn out I’ll probably want to do something in animal genetics.

Best book/movie/song you’ve ever read/seen/heard?
One of my favorite books of all time is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I first read it my freshmen year of high school and something about it just stuck with me. It’s an easy read and its fun, but it also has a serious side.
 Favorite method of expression?
Drawing is my favorite, but I love anything artsy. I may not be good at a whole lot, but I love trying out different mediums and seeing what result I get. I have to try everything at least once.

What do you like most about Sex Out Loud?

I love the open, sex-positive environment. It’s nice to have somewhere to go and not have to feel awkward if I want to explore new sexual topic. Also, I love the programs, they’re fun and educational.
